Palm Pre Limited Launch to Avoid iPhone Like Queues?

Could Palm and Sprint be limiting Palm Pre availability at launch to avoid the massive lines of prospective customers that was seen when Apple launched the Apple iPhone?

Intomobile speculates that this is the case, as InsideSprintNow put some light on the Palm Pre activation procedure along with Sprint's activation procedure.

Apparently the Palm Pre will be activated by Sprint agents thus enabling the Palm Pre owner to finalise activation via the Pre's "Hands-free Activation" feature. One thing with limiting the Palm Pre is that Sprint agents won't get too overworked.

By now virtually everyone will be aware that on launch the Palm Pre smartphone will be in somewhat of a short supply, but just how dismal can we expect that Palm Pre stock to be?

Well, everythingpre has managed to get hold of a couple of alleged screens showing Best Buy stock figures for the soon to be launched Pre.

These images show Best Buy stores in Florida and Texas will hold 18 to 20 Palm Pre smartphones while other locations get a dismal and extremely disappointing 2 or maybe if they are lucky 3. So I would say to those who are waiting to grab the Palm Pre, don't bank on getting it on launch day.

HTC Party on June 24th May Reveal HTC Hero?

According to engadget mobile, HTC is going to throw a party on the 24th of June, beginning at 11:30AM in London, although there is no word as to why the party is being held.

We can presume HTC will undoubtedly unveil some HTC goodness upon the mobile phone arena, and as you might remember, HTC unveiled their HTC Touch Diamond as a similar event just over a year ago.

Presumable HTC will unveil the HTC Hero with its customisable Android user interface; however not knowing any detail as HTC are keeping tight lipped it is difficult to guess at this stage

LiMo Foundation Finalise R2 Specifications

The LiMo Foundation has now wrapped up specification work on their 2nd mobile phone release namely the LiMo R2 announced the Limo Foundation.

The major improvements to the LiMo R2 over the LiMo R1 incorporate enhanced support for location based services, integrated PIM functionality, advanced security applications such as VPN and such, and media improvements.

The most important improvement on the LiMo R2 though is that it integrates the OMAP's BONDI 1.0 spec that enables carriers and manufacturers and developers a common target platform for mobile web applications and widgets.

The HTC Snap is now available for purchase in the United Kingdom for £289.99 from online retailer Devicewire.

New Android phone coming this summer says T-Mobile USA

Cole Brodman, T-Mobile USA's CTO has confirmed that T-Mobile USA is gearing up to roll out their 2nd Google Android mobile handset. Brodman told moconews that the follow up mobile phone to the T-Mobile G1 will be out early in summer and details of the release will follow this month.

T-Mobile is the 4th largest US carrier and has sold at least 1 million Android powered handsets, and although there isn't much known on specifics about the new Android phone it will follow the launch of the Palm Pre but may just land in stores before the expected new iPhone 2009.

The new Android phone will sport the Cupcake OS; however, Brodman wouldn't speculate further other than state T-Mobile USA has multiple new Android devices coming from new handset manufacturers.

INQ Mobile Twitter Phone by Christmas

INQ Mobile has plans to introduce a Twitter phone by Christmas and hopes to cash in on the popular interest in Twittering, the head of INQ has told Reuters.

According to INQ chief exec, Frank Meehan, the INQ Twitter phone would be the first mass market phone with an internet based Twitter client and cost operators less than $140.

Meehan also confirmed that the phone will operate via internet connection for sending tweets like Twitter's own service. INQ Mobile also has plans to launch another mobile phone for the Christmas market.

The word from MobileBurn is that Microsoft's new search engine, Bing has now launched a new mobile edition for mobile phones.

The new mobile search engine enables the user to specify a location and thus receive relevant search results. Furthermore, users can browse pre-determines search options such as movies, weather, traffic and directions related to that specific location.

Is RIM up to the New iPhone and Palm Pre Challenge?

With the expected launch of the Palm Pre and the expected unveiling of a new iPhone at WWDC 2009, Research IN Motion is facing some stiff competition in the mobile arena this summer reports nationalpost.

However, according to Jim Suva, and analyst for Citigroup, the BlackBerry maker is more than up for the challenge, and has thus maintained his "buy" rating on stock along with his $100 price target.

Suva also stated that aside from the near term challenges, RIM's present market share and challenges at Sony Ericsson and Motorola allow plenty of space to grow as customers continue to embrace smartphones.
